The Butchies and Amy Ray @ The Bowery Ballroom, NYC April 6th, 2001
I really went to see the Butchies, I know of Amy Ray from the Indigo Girls, but I'm not much into folk-y type stuff, so I wasn't expecting too much. But I was completely wrong. Amy Ray played with the Butchies backing her up for most of the songs, and she totally rocked.
For one Amy Ray song Josephine Wiggs and the drummer from Lucious Jackson played bass and drums, respectively.
Kathleen Hanna and Sadie's replacement in Le Tigre got up on stage to dance and sing for a Butchies song!
Before the Butchies went on my friend Shanny saw Kathleen standing near us in the crowd, and said *really* loud, "it's Kathleen Hanna!", and I looked but Kathleen had heard and was looking right at me! I was so embarrased! But once I got through looking at my feet and looked back up she said hi and smiled and waved at me, and I waved back and totally blushed. She's so rad.

...photos taken with a Nikon CP950 in shutter-priority mode, set to 1/30 of a second for most shots. No flash! So all the photos came out dark and were heavily adjusted in Photoshop (the RGB channels were levels adjusted before converting the images to grayscale, after which the levels were adjusted again. I found this saved more details than simply converting to grayscale). I think I sharpened them a little to heavily though.
