I only print on high-quality US-made clothing (though
not for patriotic reasons!) that is not made
in sweatshops. Most of it is from American Apparel,
a progressive
(but not perfect, their advertising is problematic)
company based in Los Angeles. They pay
fair, living wages to their workers and do great
work. I'm also now using union-made shirts from The
Union Jean Company, another company doing good work
and treating their workers fairly.
You may not realize that most of the clothing you see
in stores is produced by companies that use sweatshop
labor. All of the big brands do. I will not support
those companies nor will I support any mill that uses
cheap labor overseas. I'm always looking for new clothing
companies to use, but so far AA and UJ
are the only ones that meet my criteria.
Keep in mind that this apparel is much more expensive
for me to buy, I can get sweatshop-made shirts for as
low as $1 each (brand names that I am sure you are very
familiar with) but I simply will not use those shirts.
When you see shirts being sold elsewhere for very cheap,
guess what, they're cheap because they were made by
exploiting people, mainly women, in developing countries
around the world (and in the US as well). If you are
not quite certain what sweatshops really are, please
read about the issue.
Measurements
I offer every possible size I can get in a given style.
I think it would be terribly unfair if I didn't. The
XXL to 4XL sizes do cost me a little more to buy, so
what I generally do is split the price difference -
you pay half and I pay half. I think that's fair.
The measurements may vary a bit and all the shirts
stretch so if you're close you'll probably be happy.
The best thing to do is to measure your favorite-fitting
shirt! Lay your shirt flat on a table and measure it
like the charts below. That's how I got the first measurements
in the charts, the second ones (the ones in parentheses)
are body measurements, the all-the-way-around measurements
that you'd make with a flexible tape measure. If you
want a looser-fitting shirt go a size up.
All the measurements on this page are in inches. If
you're a metric sort of person (and most people in the
world are!) you can go
here to view a metric version of this page (via
a clever script I wrote that converts the measurements
on the fly!).
The girly shirts are sized for 'women'
and the unisex shirts are sized for 'men', though
of course they'll fit anyone (I can wear a medium in
style 2001 or a XL in style 2102, for example). Keep
that in mind when you pick a size! Use the actual measurements
to find the right size for you. The measurements may
vary slightly!
Most of the shirts are 100% cotton, the
6311 Sheer Jersey and the undies are 5% spandex. Remember
that cotton fabric will shrink if you wash it in hot
water. Please follow the care and washing
instructions!
All the shirts and undies are made by
American Apparel except for the 1001 Unisex-T which
is made by The Union Jean Company.

2102
Girly Fine Jersey T-Shirt
This is like the 'femme' version of a standard
t-shirt. It's got more of a fitted cut and
it doesn't have that potato-sack drape like
those 'beefy' t-shirts. It snuggles you
up gently instead of just hanging on your
shoulders like an annoying boyfriend.
Note that the Girly T's are shorter in
length than the Unisex T's.

Girly Raglan Long Sleeve T-Shirt
If you made a hoodie out of a long-sleeved fine
jersey t-shirt and then cut off the actual hood,
you'd have this shirt (sorta). It's definitely
not as thick as hoodies usually are though, it's
still a t-shirt. And how totally cute, there's
a little pocket on the front! It's also a raglan,
which means just means it's put together a little
differently at the shoulder. Look at the picture!
Note that these shirts are shorter in length
than the same size Girly-T (2102).

These are made out of sheer jersey material,

the other shirts.

2001
Unisex Fine Jersey T
This one is the American Apparel version
of the standard t-shirt. It's not a 'beefy'-T
by any means but it's not as fitted as the
shirts above. It's still got some slinkiness
but it's not clingy. Anyone can wear these
- I wear these! They're heaven really, it's
like hugging a bunny. These shirts are also
cool because they come in the most sizes.
They're sized for men, so make sure to check
the actual measurements to find the right
size for you.

Boy Briefs
These are *definitely* not for boys! Which
is a shame, because I'm having an awful
time trying to find sweatshop-free undies
for myself. Anyway, these are totally cute.
The come in the following colors: White
with Baby Blue trim, Red with White trim,
and Fuchsia with Pink Trim. They are made
of 95% Cotton and 5% Spandex. The elastic
waistband is white with accent stripes.
Aren't they cute?

This thong is supposed to be almost invisible

liked that word).

Care
and Washing Information
It's pretty simple, the shirts and prints
are high-quality so there's nothing special you need
to do. There are a few things you should do with
all your clothes to make them last longer though. Taking
good care of your clothing is the respectful and responsible
thing to do, think of all the resources and labor that
go into making them! I think it's important to stop
thinking of clothes as 'disposable', that's why I use
high-quality apparel and printing.
-
Turn them inside out before washing
them. This protects the design and keeps clothes looking
newer in general. You know all that lint that comes
out of your washing machine and your dryer? That's
your clothes, gradually wearing away.
-
Wash clothes in cold or warm water,
not hot, delicate or normal setting is best.
Hot water will shrink your clothes and wear them down
more quickly.
-
-
Spot treat stains instead of using
tons of strong detergent. I use non-toxic, phosphate-free
and biodegradable detergent and I use the greywater
from my wash to water my fruit trees. If I did that
with normal detergent they'd die. Think about that!
-
Line dry or machine dry on a low heat,
delicate or normal setting - don't bake them.
-
Don't iron the printed design. You
won't be happy if you do.
-
Definitely do not dry clean! In fact,
don't get anything dry cleaned! Dry cleaning basically
involves dipping clothes in solvents that are toxic
carcinogens. It's decidedly earth-unfriendly!
